EarthFax Development Corporation was formed in 1993 as an affiliate of EarthFax Engineering, Inc. Initially, the company concentrated its efforts on the development of field procedures for application of white-rot fungi as a means of bioremediating contaminated soil. This technology has proven amenable to the degradation of a wide variety of contaminants, including pesticides, herbicides, wood preservatives, explosives, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, PCBs, cyanide, dyes, and others.
While a major focus of EarthFax Development remains with fungal bioremediation, the company has expanded to provide additional chemical and microbiological services. These services include the production of fungal enzymes and the extraction, purification, and characterization of humic substances in soil, water, and other substances. This latter service is designed to assist soil, crop, and agronomic professionals whose projects require a clear understanding of the humic fraction.
EarthFax Development also conducts bench-scale evaluations for proposed and ongoing solidification/stabilization projects, which has been widely used to remediate contaminated soil and sludges. The test procedures used by EarthFax Development are based on the extensive experience of EarthFax Engineering in the design and construction management of projects involving the solidification/stabilization of over 400,000 yd3 of contaminated waste.
